If you receive the SRD R370 grant, you can change your banking details through the official SASSA SRD website. The site is zero-rated on most South African mobile networks, so you will not need airtime or data to access it.
Visit srd.sassa.gov.za
Open your web browser and go to srd.sassa.gov.za. This is the official SASSA SRD portal where you can manage your grant details.
Enter your ID number and phone number
Log in by entering your 13-digit South African ID number and the phone number linked to your SRD grant application.
Request an OTP
SASSA will send a one-time PIN (OTP) to your registered phone number. Enter this PIN to verify your identity.
Select 'Change Banking Details'
Navigate to the banking details section and select the option to update your payment method.
Enter your new banking details
Provide your new bank account details including bank name, account type (savings or current), branch code, and account number. Ensure the account is in your name.
Confirm and submit
Review the new banking details carefully and submit the change. You will receive an SMS confirming that your banking details have been updated.
Important:After updating your banking details, the change will take effect from your next payment. If you change your details close to the payment date, the current month's payment may still go to your old account. Always update your details well before the next payment date.
Updating Banking Details for Other Grants (In Person)
For all grants other than the SRD R370, you must visit a SASSA office in person to change your banking details. This includes the Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, Child Support Grant, Foster Child Grant, Care Dependency Grant, War Veterans Grant, and Grant-in-Aid.
Gather your documents
Before visiting the SASSA office, make sure you have all the required documents ready (see the list below). This will save you from having to make multiple trips.
Visit your nearest SASSA office
Go to any SASSA office during working hours (Monday to Friday, 7:30 to 16:00). Arrive early as offices can get busy, especially at the beginning of the month. You can find your nearest office on the SASSA website at www.sassa.gov.za.
Request a banking detail change
Tell the SASSA official that you want to change your banking details. They will ask you to fill in a form and will verify your identity. You may need to provide biometric verification (fingerprint scan).
Submit your documents
Hand over your supporting documents. The SASSA official will process your request and give you a receipt or reference number. Keep this safe.
Confirm the update before next payment
Call SASSA at 0800 60 10 11 a few days before the next payment date to confirm that your banking details have been updated in the system. This ensures your payment goes to the correct account.

Common Issues and How to Solve Them
"My banking detail change was rejected"
This usually happens when the bank account details do not match your SASSA records. Common causes:
- The bank account is not in your name
- The account number or branch code was entered incorrectly
- The account has been closed or frozen
- The name on your bank account does not match your ID
Solution: Verify your banking details with your bank, ensure the account is active and in your name, and try again.
"I changed my details but payment went to the old account"
If you updated your banking details close to the payment date, the change may not have been processed in time. SASSA typically needs at least 5 to 7 working days to process a banking detail change. Always update your details well before the next payment date.
Solution: Contact SASSA at 0800 60 10 11 to confirm the change was processed. Your next payment should go to the new account.
"I do not receive an OTP when trying to change details online"
If you are not receiving the OTP (one-time PIN) on your phone, check the following:
- Your phone number matches the one registered with SASSA
- Your phone has signal and is switched on
- Your SMS inbox is not full
- You have not blocked the SASSA SMS number
Solution: If the issue persists, you may need to update your phone number first, or visit a SASSA office in person.
"Someone changed my banking details without my permission"
If you suspect that your banking details were changed fraudulently, take immediate action:
- Call SASSA at 0800 60 10 11 to report the fraud
- Visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID to reverse the change
- Report the fraud to the South African Police Service (SAPS)
- Get a case number and provide it to SASSA
Important: Never share your ID number, phone OTP, or SASSA login details with anyone. SASSA will never call you to ask for these details.
